Pervez Imroz escapes life bid

Srinagar, June 30: Prominent human rights activist Pervez Imroz had a narrow escape when police and CRPF troops attacked his residence at Wathoora in Budgam on Monday.
According to reports, at around 10.30 pm cops and CRPF personnel jumped into the compound of Imroz’s house and opened heavy firing which was followed by a grenade attack. On hearing the gunshots, dozens of villagers rushed to Imroz’s house, reports said, adding that on seeing the people the cops and CRPF troopers fled away.
Imroz, who heads Jammu Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society (JKCCS) has been targeted in the past by the security agencies. Only a fortnight ago he was detained along with two more human rights activists in Sopore while they were collecting details for the International Tribunal on human rights in Kashmir.
