Srinagar, June 29:Paramilitary CRPF troops attacked the Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani at Bemina here on Sunday evening. Geelani, however, escaped unhurt, according to a Hurriyat spokesman.
The troops attacked the vehicle (No. JK04A/888) in which Geelani was travelling and smashed its windowpanes, the spokesman Ayaz Muhammad Akbar told this newspaper.
He said Geelani escaped unhurt while driver of the vehicle, Abdul Hameed Wani was injured in the incident.
Geelani was on his way to Bemina to lead the funeral prayers of Imtiyaz Haroon, son of Abdul Ahad who succumbed to bullet injuries that he received in CRPF firing during a protest demonstration on Saturday.
“Geelani was forced to return home and later he was again put under house arrest,” the Hurriyat spokesman said, adding that a heavy contingent of police was deployed outside Geelani’s Hyderpora residence.
“We condemn the attack on Geelani Sahib as worst kind of state-terrorism,” the spokesman added.
